Developer White Rabbit announces Death's Gambit, a two dimensional side-scrolling action platformer that draws heavy inspiration from the likes of Shadow of the Colossus and Dark Souls.

Fighting gods and monsters in a beautiful pixelated setting seems to be what Death's Gambit offers, and judging from its first trailer, it's going to do it quite well.

The hero strikes a deal with Death, vowing to bring down the immortals of the world, in exchange for prolonging his own stay in the realm of the living.

The hero carves his way through the world of Aldwynn, killing everything from skeletons to knights and even huge enemies that you'll have to scale prior to defeating.

You also get to ride a phoenix into the sunset, which is something that not many games offer, and the visuals look extremely spiffy, so it's definitely one to watch out for.

A very interesting-looking game

Furthermore, the team doesn't rely entirely on eye candy to carry the game, as White Rabbit touts a highly strategic challenge when it comes to combat, giving the hero the possibility of arming himself with two weapons, three abilities and a healing item, choosing from a wide array of options, in order to enable gamers to select something that fits their own preferred play style.

The combat system includes melee weapons, shields, and guns, allowing users to block enemy attacks but also to use dodge rolls in order to get out of harm's way.

The developers' aim is to make combat very strategic, about paying attention and thinking things through, rather than about relying on twitch reflexes or muscle memory.

From Software's highly acclaimed action role-playing game Souls series is mentioned as a clear source of inspiration, the team's focus being on creating something inspired by Dark Souls but having a unique take on the combat style and level design.

The Death's Gambit website also mentions something regarding a future crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, so we'll keep our eyes open and will return with more news.
