Here is something that you don't see often in the gaming industry. A game that's not even fully released has managed to sell no less than 3,000,000 copies. DayZ is still on Steam Early Access since its launch back in December 2013.

DayZ has been constantly the best-selling game on Steam for months, so there's no wonder that after 13 months developers announced they managed to sell more than 3,000,000 million copies.

You need a very strong community to support you and offer you feedback and spread the word about the quality of your game. DayZ seems to have had all that was required to become a success, even though developer Bohemia Interactive still has a lot of work.

The standalone version of Bohemia Interactive's other smash hit Arma 2 modification created by Dean Hall, seems to be have been at the root of an entire genre of video gaming and inspired many other games studios to come up with similar zombie survival games.

Even though the game is still Steam Early Access, developers confirmed that they have delivered no less than 24 updates during that time, which is roughly two per month.

Most of the updates were meant to fix all the bugs reported by players, as well as to improve DayZ's core of features. Inventory, multiplayer architecture and map improvements have been added during the game's one year of existence.

But that's not all, as DayZ players should expect even more improvements this year, including the transition to an improved anti-cheat system and a lot of other multiplayer optimizations.

Bohemia Interactive's other achievement is the upgrade of its Enfusion engine

The main challenge in 2014 for Bohemia Interactive was to rewrite the entire core engine of DayZ, so that the new one can deliver significant long-term improvements.

The name of the new engine developed by Bohemia Interactive is called Enfusion and will bring upgrades to the renderer and it will considerably improve the visual aesthetics of particle effects.

The upgrade of the engine will also allow the game to utilize DirectX 11, which will further enhance the experience of console versions of DayZ.

David Durcak, the project lead of DayZ, is thanking all those who supported and continue to support this project and promises to offer more details on the many improvements the studio plans to bring to the game in 2015:

“We would like to say thank you to every single one of the three million players, that have joined us on the journey of making DayZ. You all have helped make DayZ the best open world, zombie survival game. This is an amazing achievement, and we are really looking forward to start sharing with you all of our game design improvements, anti-hack solutions and other optimizations we have been working on for a majority of the last year.”
