The Deathinitive Edition of Darksiders 2 isn't the end

Darksiders franchise owner Nordic Games confirms that it's currently focusing on Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition for PS4 and Xbox One, although both Darksiders 3 and a remastered edition of Darksiders 1 are possibilities in the future.

The Darksiders saga was initially developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ, drawing in quite a lot of action-adventure hack-and-slash fans all around the world. Unfortunately, its popularity wasn't enough to save THQ, and subsequently, Vigil Games from bankruptcy.

As such, the rights to the series were acquired by Nordic Games, which stayed relatively silent about the series, saying only that it's quite important for the company overall.

After quite a few leaks and rumors, the European publisher revealed earlier today that it's partnering with Gunfire Games, a team made out of former Vigil veterans, to bring Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition to PS4 and Xbox One this winter.

New Darksiders projects could appear soon enough

While talking about the new title, the publisher confirms that the franchise's future is still unclear, as Nordic might fund an all-new project, like Darksiders 3, or try to bring back the original game in the series, remastered for PS4 and Xbox One.

"Since Darksiders is an active project for us we are obviously making up our minds about [Darksiders 3]," Nordic Games' Phillip Brock tells Polygon. "So far we have nothing to officially announce though. We think [Darksiders 1 remastered] could be a great project, though, and in comparison to the original version we could make a huge step forward."

It's pretty obvious that Nordic Games will use the sales performance of Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition to see if it's worth continuing to invest in the franchise or start from scratch with something completely new. Expect to hear more about the upcoming remaster as we get closer to its launch this winter on PS4 and Xbox One.
