14 DAY TRIAL // Crimsonland is an old top-down shooter developed by Reflexive Entertainment and published by 10tons Ltd for the Linux platform 11 years later, but we'll take what we can get.
Crimsonland was initially developed by a studio called Reflexive Entertainment, which were known for a number of quality titles. The most prominent ones are probably the Ricochet series and Swarm. They stopped releasing games a few years back, but it seems that they are still in business, although it's hard to tell what they are currently doing.
There are many top-down shooters like this one, but they have pretty much imitated Crimsonland, which is still one heck of a game even so many years after being published. Its fun, quick-paced, simple enough mechanics and addictive gameplay stand as proof. Unfortunately, this particular genre hasn't been exploited during the past couple of years, hence the lack of real competition.
Crimsonland has been resurrected
There was no indication that a serious release of Crimsonland was in the plans, but it looks like it's definitely a success. This will allow some of the new gamers to play something originally launched more than 10 years ago and never miss a beat.
"All planned versions of Crimsonland are now available on Steam - We always wanted to make Crimsonland truly multiplatform and now we're finally there! So, if you haven't grabbed a copy of Crimsonland yet - now would be a perfect day. We've also implemented gamepad support for all platforms and I must say that both Mac and Linux could use some improvements with their gamepad support," the devs said on the Steam website.
The devs also said that most Linux operating systems should be able to run the games, although it was mostly tested on Ubuntu. The system requirements are quite small and the game is available with a 60% discount scheduled to end on February 9.
