Clonezilla Live, a Linux distribution based on DRBL, Partclone, and udpcast that allows users to do bare metal backup and recovery, is now at version 2.3.1-9 and is ready for testing.

The Clonezilla team is working towards a new stable release of this extremely helpful Linux distribution and it has made a number of important improvements and various updates.

“The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2014/Nov/04),” reads the official announcement.

Some of the regular packages have been updated as well, drbl to version 2.10.6-drbl1, clonezilla to version 3.11.15-drbl1, and a --rsyncable option for gzip and pigz has been added.

Clonezilla Live is a Linux distribution that does only one thing: bare metal backup and recovery. It's very similar to other, older pieces of cloning software, such as True Image or Norton Ghost.

A complete list of changes, improvements, and fixes can be found in the official announcement. You can download Clonezilla Live 2.3.1-9 right now from Softpedia. This is still a development version and users might encounter bugs or other problems. Also, it's worth mentioning that Clonezilla doesn't have a desktop environment and it can be a dangerous tool if you don't know what you are doing.
