Cinnamon, a Linux desktop environment developed by the same team that is also building Linux Mint, has been updated yet again, although this time it's a rather small progression.

Cinnamon 2.x has been a very interesting branch and the developers have made some very interesting progress with it. The latest major upgrade, which was dubbed 2.4, is scheduled to arrive along with Linux Mint 17.1.

A lot of changes and improvements have been made and users will definitely see some major differences.

The current version is 2.4.4, which is just a small upgrade. It's full of smaller fixes and it has no important new features. For example, the trash icon has been repaired, the onscreen keyboard now points to the correct keys, the button is now showing an icon even when the user has no "face" picture, the systray applet has been refined, some of the 2D session requirements have been corrected, and numerous other smaller changes have been made.

More details about the Cinnamon 2.4 release can be found in the official announcement. You can download Cinnamon 2.4.4 source package from Softpedia or you can wait for it to hit the repositories.

If you have a Linux Mint system or an Ubuntu one, you can follow this tutorial to learn how to get the 2.4.4 release.
