Enterprise-grade security solution for iOS and Android platforms added to Check Point's large portfolio

Check Point Software Technologies announced on Thursday its intention to acquire Lacoon Mobile Security, a company founded in 2011 that develops enterprise-grade iOS and Android security solutions.

Apart from anti-malware protection, Lacoon also offers intelligence services for an organization’s security and mobility infrastructures.

Check Point's move comes after the trend to rely more and more on BYOD (bring your own device) practices in the business environment has already been established. This approach has been proven to increase employee productivity, as they have access to company resources at any time, regardless of their location.

Gil Shwed, CEO and Chairman of Check Point, said that although a traditional MDM (master data management) strategy takes into consideration the existence of mobile devices, it misses an important aspect: "protecting those devices, and the data on them, from threats."

With research and development operations in Tel Aviv, Lacoon currently holds patent-pending technology for detecting threats on mobile devices, applications, and on the network, which would add to the security services Check Point already provides to its customers.

The details of the deal have not been disclosed by either of the two parties, but the acquisition is expected to close today, and the Lacoon founders and team will be assimilated into Check Point’s operations.

The new technology will be used to enrich Check Point’s portfolio with Advanced Mobile Application Threat Emulation, behavioral risk analysis, and real-time anomaly detection capabilities.
