The either really lucky or terribly unfortunate feline traveled from Virginia to Hawaii in a home moving box

If it's true what they say that cats have nine lives, it's safe to assume that Mee Moowe went through pretty much all of them earlier this year, when she somehow managed to survive as many as 36 days trapped in a box with no food or at least water.

The feline, photos of which are included in the gallery below, belongs to the Barth family who, until not too long ago, lived in the continental US. Apparently, Mee Moowe's brush with death was the result of its family's decision to move to Hawaii.

How the cat ended up in the box

Ashley Barth and her daughters explain that, earlier this year, in September, they started packing their things to move from the city of Suffolk in Virginia all the way to Hawaii. Without their noticing, their pet cat hid inside one of the home moving boxes.

Once the family were done packing, a company collected the boxes with the promise to eventually deliver them to the Barths in Hawaii. The family say that, although it did not take them long to notice that Mee Moowe was missing, they never suspected that the feline was hiding in their moving boxes.

Ashley Barth and her daughters say that they waited around for their cat to show up for about three days before they gave up and left for Hawaii themselves. When they left their home in Virginia, they were convinced that they would never see Mee Moowe again.

A very lucky escape

Having left Suffolk trapped inside a home moving box, the feline traveled some 4,800 miles (over 7,700 kilometers) to Hawaii. The journey lasted well over a month, and during this time, the cat had nothing to eat or drink, DM reports.

When the Barths finally had their moving boxes delivered to their new home in Hawaii, they heard a faint meow coming from inside one of them. When opening the box in question, they came face to face with Mee Moowe. Despite starving and severely dehydrated, the cat was very much alive.

“I was in shock. I couldn't believe it,” Ashley Barth told the press in an interview. “I think I was grateful that she was alive, but I was furious this happened to her,” the woman went on to detail.

The family immediately rushed the cat to a vet. After being fed and hydrated, Mee Moowe started feeling somewhat better. By the looks of it, the feline lost about half her body weight during the 36 days that she was left without any food or water.

Seeing how it skipped the vaccination process required for it to be allowed to move to Hawaii, the feline is now in quarantine. Still, once cleared, Mee Moowe will be allowed to return to her family.
