A handful of 4K-ready devices from Canon incoming

A while ago we told you that a slew of Canon camcorders and cameras were expected to hit in 2015. And we already talked about the Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark II which is a 4K-ready device that is expected to arrive at the NAB 2015.

Well, news of another 4K-friendly product has surfaced online. Canon Rumors reports that the iconic company is developing a 4K camcorder with a fixed lens, called the XC10 which will supposedly be announced in the first weeks of 2015.

New Canon 4K camcorder set to arrive in Las Vegas

Naturally, we have to assume this means we’re going to see the new XC10 make a debut at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, during one of the world’s largest consumer electronics trade shows.

Canon announced the EOS C100 Mark II not long ago and the upcoming XC10 is said to be sporting a similar look, but the fixed lens part has been taken out of the picture.

This particular model does not come equipped with 4K capabilities, but it’s the company’s first attempt to bring the mojo back while its Cinema EOS lineup is concerned.

We’re also waiting for the Mark II versions of the C300, C500 and 1 D C, but until details about these products surface online, we’re going to focus on the newly revealed XC10.

The Canon XC10 will look similar to the EOS C100 Mark

As we told you above, the XC10 will be a camcorder featuring a fixed-lens system. If this information turns out to be true, it means that the Canon XC10 would become the first Cinema EOS model that doesn’t take advantage of an interchangeable lens system.

We’re not given many details about the specifications of the upcoming device. For example, the focal range of the lens is shrouded in mystery and it could be hypothesized that the video camera could have a prime or zoom lens. It’s a possibility but take it with a grain of salt for now.

Word on the street claims the camcorder will be aimed at regular consumers and in all likelihood we’re going to end up seeing it at CES 2015.

The other 4K-ready cameras we discussed earlier will probably be revealed ahead of the NAB Show, but won’t make an appearance at CES 2015, because they are aimed at a different crowd.

Hopefully, Canon will be able to maintain an affordable price range with the XC10. As 4K-capable cameras are getting more and more affordable, Canon needs to provide a viable alternative if it ever hopes to make it in this sector.
