Ubuntu Touch is almost ready, but some of the core apps are still updated. The camera app recently received an upgrade and numerous features have been added.

Many smartphones users are actually making the most of their cameras, so it's very important to have a powerful camera app that has all the features people might want. Ubuntu Touch already had a working app for this purpose and it was one of the first native apps made for the OS. The latest upgrade brings some new features.

It's difficult to say whether anything is missing, but users will find options like HDR (High-dynamic-range imaging), timer with 5 and 15 seconds, a grid setting, and GPS tagging for the pictures. I'm not even mentioning stuff like flash controls.

Users don't need to do anything special. The app is already installed and it will be automatically updated, along with everything else. The images you see in the gallery were taken in the RTM edition of Ubuntu Touch, which is very stable and is available to download right now.

Camera app needed some love

It's not surprising anymore that users really like to take pictures of everything. That means the camera app needs to be tip-top (a Snatch reference for certain fans) and this latest update does make a difference.

Ubuntu Touch has a number of core apps that are updated all the time, including some that you don't really find on any other mobile operating system by default, like a complete file manager with root access or a terminal, just like the one on the desktop.

Canonical is very close to ship the operating system on phones to be sold in stores, which is a big step for the company. The first phones will land from Bq and Meizu in the coming months.
