Calibre, a complete application to edit, view, and convert eBook files, has been updated to version 2.12 and the developer has added a number of very interesting new features.

The previous Calibre iteration concentrated on a single major change, but the current one comes with a wealth of modifications. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but the Editing function from Calibre seems to be the target of some of the most important improvements.

This is a very complex application and it has hundreds of options and various functionalities, and that without adding all the plugins. The developer always has something to improve or to fix.

Some versions bring more changes than others, but the progress for Calibre is done with very small steps. The past few weeks have been less about fixes and more about new features, and the new 2.12 version is following this trend.

Calibre 2.12 is a very good reason to update

One of the biggest flaws of the application is the lack of an auto-update function, which would unburden the user from the weekly manual update process. It's not a major problem, but if you want to get all the latest releases, you need to do this every week.

"Make translations of the User Manual available in many different languages (fully or partially translated). Click the 'Change Language' link in the sidebar of the manual to change the language. Add a new function annotation (replace.file_order) to control what order multiple files are processed in, when doing Replace All." These are just two of the more interesting new features.

Users will also notice that the closing tag for HTML/XML files, which can be edited in Calibre, will now be placed automatically by the application. Also, pressing enter while in Editing mode will create a new line with the proper indentation.

A number of fixes have been implemented in Calibre 2.12 as well. For example, the Woblink store plugin has been fixed, the heuristic algorithm has been improved and it should now be capable of detecting footnote links, and the libimobiledevice library has been updated to version 1.1.7. This last modification will actually help users with Apple devices to connect to Calibre without any issues.

More details about this latest release can be found on the official website. You can also download the Calibre 2.12 source package from Softpedia, if you want to compile it yourself. We also have a comprehensive review of Calibre.
