Kovid Goyal announced today, April 10, the immediate availability for download of Calibre 2.24, an open-source and cross-platform ebook library management software for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

While the new Calibre 2.24 release brings only a couple of new features, it addresses numerous issues that have been reported by users since the previous version of the software, Calibre 2.23, which was announced last week.

According to the release notes, Calibre 2.24 introduces an option in the E-book viewer component that prohibits saving of bookmarks inside EPUB files. The option has been implemented in the Miscellaneous section of the viewer preferences window.

It is now possible to copy the full path to an ebook file simply by right clicking on the format link in the book details panel. Moreover, users will now be able to restrict the visible items to only those present in the current Virtual Library, thanks to modifications in the Manage User Categories component.

Numerous issues have been resolved, and news sources improved

As expected, numerous issues have been resolved in this new Calibre version, especially in the Edit Book component. For example, issues with corrupted GIF images have been fixed, a problem with ordering of files when using drag and drop has been repaired, and a regression with Unicode characters has been addressed.

In addition, Calibre 2.24 received fixes for issues in the Book Conversion component, the Device view, the Get Books component, and in the PDF Metadata functionality. For more details, you can always check the official release notes.

Last but not least, several news sources have been improved in Calibre 2.24, including Harvard Business Review, United Daily, Le Temps, Providence Journal, Apple Daily, Liberty Times, House News, and China Times. Download Calibre 2.24 for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows right now from Softpedia.
