The game has only received two updates on last-gen consoles

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare offers a decent single-player experience, almost better than the previous installment in the series, but the multiplayer is the main reason most fans are purchasing the game.

Since its release back in November 2014, many players have complained about connectivity issues and frequent freezes when playing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer.

Owners of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are by far the most affected by these issues. It’s been a little more than two months since Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was released on last-gen consoles and the game is still plagued by lots of issues.

A few days ago, High Moon Studio, the folks who handle the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, have released a new update for the game.

Unfortunately, the changelog was very short and only contained some improvements to connectivity and content management for purchases through the in-game store.

There were no bug fixes or other important improvements that could enhance the gameplay experience to the last-gen consoles. Well, it looks like that didn’t go unnoticed, as many PlayStation 3 owners continue to complain on the game’s official forums.

Here is what one of them has to say regarding the current state of the game: “So almost 2 months since release, PS3 has received 2 updates, but the game continues to freeze my console at least once an hour & I still get the 4704 error about exceeding image assets. Will these issues ever be addressed?”

A new update will be available soon, which will add Daily Challenges among other things

Another PlayStation 3 player claims that even after the update that should “improve connectivity,” he is getting freezes and lag while playing multiplayer:

“It freezes 4-9 seconds in the lobby before the match begins, if I'm viewing a new supply drop and press O to get back to the lobby screen. It freezes at the supply drop screen and I can't return back to the lobby.  I have to shut down my ps3 and restart the game.

“I have also noticed that the running in the game very much slows down. It's a big difference between playing Online and Offline with bots. Not being able to run slows the game down a lot.”

While developers have since replied to both messages on the forum, their offered solution implied the re-installation of the game or the deletion of the cache.

It looks like the only viable solution for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players to have decent multiplayer experience on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare would be to upgrade to next-gen consoles.
