Mariah Carey’s fans, aka the Lambs, know that she loves nothing better than Christmas. As per her own admission, if she could, she would extend the Christmas season to last the entire year, because that would mean she’d get to decorate trees, sing carols and be in a festive mood for 12 months straight.

She already has several, very successful Christmas music albums out, and she’s always a fixture at Christmas-themed events or tree lighting ceremonies. The next step for Mariah is to star in her very own Christmas movie.

Apparently, this is in the cards, Deadline informs: New Line has secured rights for a Christmas movie pitch with Mariah Carey from RatPac Entertainment. Director Brett Ratner is the head of RatPac, and he also happens to be one of Mariah’s closest longtime friends.

The trade publication also confirms the involvement of writers David Diamond and David Weissman and producer Jon Shestack. The plan is to have Mariah in the lead role and probably to provide music for the OST as well.

The idea for the project came from Carey, Deadline says.

Mariah’s work in film has been mixed so far: on the one hand, she did “Glitter,” which is still considered one of the worst, most ridiculous and unintentionally hilarious movies of all times; but on the other, she also did a small role in “Precious” and managed to steal the show with just a few minutes’ worth of acting.

Assuming this Christmas pic doesn’t go anywhere near the general direction of “Glitter,” it will be watchable.
