Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is the last game in the Borderlands universe and one of the first triple A titles to get Linux support. Now a new update has been released, and the Linux version got it as well.

2K Software proved to be one of the biggest supporters of Linux gaming, and they already released quite a few games from their catalog on Steam for the open source platform, with the help of companies specialized in the porting process. It took a few years, but publishers are turning around, and they realize that Linux is a good market, especially if you catch it early and you have an advantage.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was ported to Linux by Aspyr Media, a company that used to do this kind of work for Mac OS X. As you all well know, Mac OS X needs to make use of OpenGL just like Linux, so it wasn't too big of a stretch for Aspyr to start porting it to Linux. They are getting better at it, and they can now make sure that a patch arrives on all platforms at once, preserving the multiplayer connectivity between platforms.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel get a big patch

The latest patch for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a very big one, and it has too many changes to mention them in part, but it's mostly full of fixes and various small improvements. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but then again, any patch is a good patch especially for games.

"A new update for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel has just been released on Steam for Mac and Linux users and on the Mac App Store. The update adds a number of performance improvements and fixes a long list of bugs. Perhaps most important is that, since the update has been simultaneously released on all supported Steam platforms, players should see no disruption in cross-platform multiplayer functionality!" reads the announcement from Aspyr.
