If you've already had your breakfast / lunch, then you might not want to continue reading as this article is going into gory detail about Bono's recent bike accident in New York City's Central Park that left his arm in terrible shape.

Initially, the press said that the singer had injured his arm and that the band was canceling its week-long residency on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, postponing it for another time, when their entire lineup is available.

No further details were given about Bono's accident until today, when Rolling Stone reports that the singer needed metal plates and screw to repair his broken arm, all of which were fitted during the course of a 5-hour-long surgery.

Bono broke his left arm, his left pinky finger, his shoulder blade and injured his eyesocket

The hospital's emergency department (New York – Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center) confirm that the singer had a nasty spill and that he needed “multiple X-rays and CAT scans” before he was put on the operating table.

It seems that Bono managed to break his left humerus bone in his upper arm in no fewer than six different places and that the injury was so severe that bone was “tearing through his skin.” In medical terms, that is known as an open fracture and it's one of the goriest looking.

Orthopaedic trauma doctor Dean Lorich, explained that Bono's elbow was “washed out and debrided, a nerve trapped in the break was moved and the bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws.”

But wait, that's not all, since Bono is reported to have also suffered a “facial fracture involving the orbit of his eye,” not to mention three fractures in his left shoulder blade. After the 5-hour-long surgery to fix his arm, Bono went again into the operating room on Monday to repair his fractured left pinky finger.

Doctors claim that he will make a full recovery, albeit a long one

Rest assured, doctors predict that Bono will make a full recovery but that he will need “intensive and progressive therapy,” although they refrained from giving a time interval for his convalescence.

But just how did Bono manage to bang himself up so badly? It's still not known. The only thing we know is that he was involved “high energy bicycle accident in New York's Central Park on Sunday, after he attempted to avoid another rider.”

He must have been traveling at great speed if he suffered such horrific injuries that spread out to the left side of his upper body. We wish him a speedy recovery.
