Players won't be able to sit back and play defensively

Bloodborne, the new role-playing game made by From Software and Sony's Japan studio, includes shields, but its battles are so dynamic that they punish players who want to just use their shields and play passively.

Bloodborne is the spiritual successor to From Software's previous titles, such as Demon's Souls or Dark Souls, but at the same time it includes quite a lot of improvements to the basic challenging RPG recipe defined by the Japanese developer.

Shields can be used in Bloodborne

After in-depth talks about the game in recent months, a brand new and quite major piece of information surfaces via Gamepur, as Sony Japan Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa confirms that players can use shields in Bloodborne.

More specifically, besides using big weapons and the signature gun, players will be able to employ a shield in their inventory.

Don't think that you'll be able to use the shield and stay untouched throughout the game's campaign, as Yamagiwa mentions that players will have to develop a strategy on how to use the shield, as the battles were specifically designed to discourage passive behavior.

According to the developer, the battles are intense in Bloodborne, so those who hope to use the shield and just play defensively will soon be overwhelmed by the variety of aggressive enemies.

"There are shields in the game. However if you're always standing back and guarding, you'll die very quickly. So you have to incorporate it into your strategy of how you play and fight. We wanted these encounters and battles to be so intense that If you just stand and wait, you'll get overwhelmed and killed right away. We wanted to encourage players to not hide and wait, but instead be more aggressive and pro-active in battle," he explains.

It's unclear what other weapons and gadgets might be included in Bloodborne, but you can expect to hear much more about it in the near future, as we get closer to its launch in March, exclusively for the PS4.
