From Software believes 30fps is the best for the game

From Software, the Japanese developer that's currently working hard on the upcoming Bloodborne role-playing experience for the PS4 console, confirms that it's targeting a 1080p native resolution and a 30fps framerate for the new title, as it's found that this is the best for the game.

RPG fans have been delighted with From Software's recent releases, from the likes of Demon's Souls to Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2. As such, many are also looking forward to the debut of Bloodborne, a new role-playing game that's set to appear next February for the PS4 platform.

After hearing quite a lot of details about its gameplay and admiring footage from the recent alpha test phase that took place on the PS4 at the beginning of the month, new info has surfaced about the game's actual performance on the console.

From Software targets 1080p and 30fps

According to a statement from Masaaki Yamagiwa, the producer in charge of Bloodborne at From Software, the studio is targeting as final performance figures for the RPG a 1080p native resolution and a 30fps framerate.

More specifically, while the game is still in development, it seems that the studio's technical team is going towards 30fps, as apparently it's found that it's the best framerate for an action game like Bloodborne.

According to Yamagiwa, who has talked with PSLS, the programmers "will probably go for 30fps since that’s what they found to be the best fps (frames-per-second) to play action games."

The developer also shares his view on the 60fps framerate figure, saying that it's best for a first-person shooter, not an action title like Bloodborne.

"They weren’t targeting 60fps because it’s not first-person shooting, it’s an action game," he adds.

The developer clarifies his statement about action titles

After seeing the outrage sparked by this statement, Yamagiwa has released a new statement on Twitter, confirming that, while Bloodborne works well at 1080p and 30fps, it's not the best performance for all action games out there.

"We are to assign 1080p/30fps for Bloodborne considering its game designs, but didn't say it’s the best choice for all action games," he explains on Twitter.

Bloodborne's decision to stick with 30fps is the latest in a pretty long series of such announcements from other game developers and publishers, with the most recent being the likes of Assassin's Creed Unity or Dragon Age: Inquisition, which both target a stable 30fps framerate, although with various resolutions, such as 1080p or 900p, depending on the platform.

Bloodborne launches on February 6, worldwide, for the PS4.
