We might see Blizzard going to Kickstarter

Blizzard has been petitioned numerous times about making their games available for the Linux platform, but there wasn't much interest or feedback from the company, and that included the publisher Activision. If the information in this latest petition is to be believed, this could change.

The Linux gaming ecosystem has changed tremendously in the last couple of years and a few of the major publishers and developers chose to release their games for this platform. There is no sign that Activision wants to do anything about it, but there might some hope after all.

There is a petition posted on Change.org (I wonder just how many like this one have been posted so far) that is called "Please Release Native Linux Clients." It's easy to guess the contents of the petition, but the guy who started the petition said that he got in touch with someone from Blizzard who is pitching the idea up the hierarchy.

Blizzard on Kickstarter? What are the chances of that?

This is one of the latest updates. "Hello supporters, I have another response from Rachel, the lady whom appears to work close to Mr. Frank Pearce, one of the three co-founders of Blizzard. Rachel has taken the time to check out this petition and is putting in a request for others high up at Blizzard to also check out the petition. They may also look in to using Kickstarter as a means to help cover the cost of creating native Linux clients for us."

It feels a little bit weird to see companies like Blizzard going to Kickstarter in order to get the money they need for the Linux client, which is why I urge you to take this information with a grain of salt. In fact, trying to raise money from the community for Linux clients might actually cost them more in terms of PR than just paying for the development themselves.

We will keep you apprised if any more information comes to light.
