Support for MATE, Xfce, and GNOME will be dropped

On May 2, Black Lab Software, through Roberto J. Dohnert, announced that the Black Lab Linux operating system would standardize on the KDE desktop environment from now on, dropping support for MATE, Xfce, and GNOME desktops.

Apparently, the Black Lab Linux developer seems upset about the fact that some of the users who requested support for alternative desktop environments on the distribution are the also the same ones who complained on the Internet about Black Lab Linux developers being indecisive about the software they choose for the distro.

"I always wanted to do one desktop and do it well," says Roberto J. Dohnert. "Some of you whom seem eager to request alternative desktop builds are also the same ones who run to the press and to forums and say we are indecisive and that we haven't a clue what we are doing. That ceases TODAY."

KDE will be the one and only desktop for Black Lab Linux

Starting today, KDE will be the one and only desktop environment for the Black Lab Linux distribution. Any existing flavor of Black Lab Linux with MATE, GNOME, or Xfce desktops will disappear, and the Black Lab Linux developers instruct users who want a computer operating system with another desktop than KDE to look elsewhere.

As such, the final versions of Black Lab Enterprise Desktop 6.5, Black Lab Education 6.5, and Black Lab Linux 7 distros will be built around the KDE desktop environment. MATE, Xfce, and GNOME flavors will still be available to those who have custom configuration agreements with Black Lab Software.

In other related news, Black Lab Software released a couple of days ago the second and last Release Candidate version of the upcoming Black Lab Linux Enterprise Desktop 6.5 distribution, which is available for download and testing with the KDE 4.14 and MATE 1.8 desktop environments.
