Not that anybody needs to be reminded of this, but Mother Nature is pretty darn amazing. If you have trouble believing this and need proof, look no further than this piece of news about a flower that, when coming into contact with water, turns transparent.

The flower, known to the scientific community as Diphylleia grayi, is native to Japan and China. As detailed by wildlife researchers, it chiefly populates moist, forested mountainous regions, and it can grow to measure 0.4 meters (1.3 feet) in height.

The peculiar plant, photos on which are available below, blooms from mid-summer until early spring. What makes its flowers so very special is the fact that, whenever it rains over them, they become transparent. Once the storm passes, they return to their usual white color.

As detailed by scientists who have taken the time to study this flower's odd behavior when in the presence of water, Diphylleia grayi's petals turn transparent when it rains on them because the water washes away their white pigmentation.

Because of how it reacts to raindrops falling on its petals, Diphylleia grayi is often referred to as the skeleton flower, Oddity Central inform. This is because, once the white pigmentation is gone, the flower's nerves and tissues are left perfectly exposed.
