It's been a while since the hit TV series “Sherlock” has been in the news, but that's only because the show is momentarily on a hiatus that's about to be broken next year for a Christmas special. Main actor Benedict Cumberbatch has decided to open up about the upcoming series in order to spark our imagination.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, the actor called the upcoming season “phenomenal” but would refrain from giving details about the plot, leaving fans to wonder into what direction the producers were going to take the show. “I can’t give any plot away… but their pitch for the Christmas special and the series beyond that is just phenomenal,” he said.

Benedict Cumberbatch would love to grow old playing Sherlock Holmes

Cumberbatch, who has become an overnight sensation thanks to the role of the super sleuth, is not idle these days. Thanks to his fame, he is now very much in demand in Hollywood, and that's keeping him busy well into next year, when the 4th series of “Sherlock” is scheduled to begin filming.

The actor also opened up about the impact the role had had on him, which seems to have been positive, since he's willing to play it until he's very old, “As long as the ideas are still there and the audience still wants it and as long as Martin and I are not so infirm we can no longer remember the lines and shuffle round the set.”

His conclusion was that “I'd love to do it into old age, I really would.” This means that he's not only comfortable with the role, but also with his co-star, Martin Freeman, who also had to benefit from his fame in “Sherlock.” Viewers will most likely recognize him as Bilbo Baggins from the Hollywood blockbuster “The Hobbit.” Interestingly, Cumberbatch also appears in that movie, as the voice of the dragon, Smaug.

Cumberbatch is now working on a new adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice”

Benedict's latest project sent his female fans into a tizzy. The British actor is busy doing a slightly racier take on the classic novel “Pride and Prejudice” for BBC, in which he's playing Mr. Darcy. As part of the role, he had to pose with an unbuttoned shirt in a lake as part of an exclusive exhibition that marked the 10th anniversary of the Give Up Clothes for Good campaign.

But no matter the role, Benedict seems to be at ease in front of cameras. For now, fans are going to have to be patient, because “Sherlock Holmes” won't return to TV screens until 2016.
