DICE expressed its desire to bring the feature to consoles in the past, but there were some hurdles to overcome

It would appear the Battlefield 4's Community Test Environment is making its way to the Xbox One home console sometime soon.

The information comes from a Tweet from an engineer at DICE LA, the studio currently in charge of upcoming Battlefield 4 content updates and patches. The dev has posted an image showing two Xbox One units running the CTE version of BF4, judging by the floating red watermark.

The developer has further clarified that the CTE option will come to Microsoft's console "really soon," and that the two devices shown in the picture are regular, retail editions of the Xbox One, and not dev kits or running any other software, just retail machines connected to the Internet.

DICE expressed its interest to bring the Community Test Environment to consoles, but the initiative is made difficult by Microsoft and Sony's very strict policy concerning updates, namely the certification process.

It would now appear that DICE has managed to jump that hurdle, and that Xbox owners will soon be getting their hands on the feature.

Furthermore, the software has already been uploaded to the Xbox Store but is currently inaccessible due to it being in a pre-release status.

BF4 CTE will land on consoles soon

One of the reasons gamers would want to access the CTE servers is the fact that many great features are tested there. The most recent update introduced a number of high frequency network servers, performing 60 and even 120 checks per second, resulting in a much smoother experience, instant feedback for damage, and no more death behind corners.

If you want to learn more about how a higher tick rate can improve your experience while playing a competitive military first-person shooter, you can check out the video below. Do note that the feature is currently undergoing testing, and that it may not actually make it to live servers, which makes CTE servers even more exciting, since you get to try out a lot of stuff.

DICE intends to deliver a sizable patch on all platforms before the end of the month, introducing a significant number of changes to Battlefield 4, including new weapons, bug fixes and gameplay improvements.
