It’s been more than two months since BlackBerry updated BBM Beta with lots of new features and improvements and the Canadian company is now back with yet another version of the instant messenger.

This time, however, BBM Beta is strictly available for BlackBerry smartphones and only to those who have been accepted in the beta program.

Keep in mind that these changes might not make it to the stable build if they are not working as intended. It’s also worth mentioning that BlackBerry might add a few other tweaks and improvements mentioned in the changelog.

If you’re already on BlackBerry Beta Zone, you might have noticed BBM Beta has received an update, and fortunately, developers have shared some details on what’s new in this version.

First of all, the update will add the option to share pictures in BBM Group chats. This is one of the many features users requested in the last couple of weeks, so BlackBerry decided that now was the time to bring it on BBM.

The second new feature introduced will allow BBM users to see notifications for their file transfers. BlackBerry has added “Delivered” and “Read” notifications for file transfer, so it will be easier for users to know when their files have been received.

The new changes should make it onto stable version next week

Even if you don’t have access to this version yet, and you’ve been dying to try out these new features, fret not as beta testing for new BBM version doesn’t usually take that long.

The new features might be added to the stable version in about a week or so. It’s unclear when BBM for other platforms will receive the same update, but it shouldn’t take too long until they are implemented to Android, iOS and Windows Phone versions.
