Most of the games are heavily discounted

Aspyr Media, a company that has ported a number of titles on the Linux platform for 2K Games, has opened its own store for the open source operating system.

2K Games is the first publisher to really take a good look at Steam for Linux and decided that it was worth it to port some of its portfolio, and they are probably not even finished.

Aspyr Media has been one of their choices and so far the porting studio has delivered on all of its promises. Linux gamers also have to keep in mind that this company is just starting, so we'll probably see even more titles in the near future.

For now, we only know of 2K as their main supplier of games, but there might be actually more publishers lined up. Porting games to Linux is not something to be done very easily, and there are already two big studios out there that do this sort of work, Aspyr Media and Feral Interactive.

Both have started by porting Windows games to the Mac OS X platform and they have been doing it for years, so they have a pretty good record of providing quality titles.

All the Linux games from Aspyr Media are discounted

To be fair, only five games are actually available in the Linux sections of GameAgent, the Aspyr Media store. Judging from the huge list of games you might think that there are more, but they only list all the DLCs for those titles and there are quite a lot of them.

The titles that can be purchased right now are Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Sid Meier's Civilization V, Geometry Wars 3 Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth. While the first four titles have been ported already, the fourth one, Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, is still in the works and it should arrive in a few weeks.

People who will buy the titles from GameAgent won't receive any special builds or clients, just a Steam key that can help them redeem the products on Steam for Linux. It's not competing with Steam, so it's not really an issue. In fact, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions was made available just a couple of days ago and Aspy Media increased its huge catalog by adding it to their own store.

You can find more details about the discounted games and all the available DLCs on the official website.
