Ubisoft is trying to promote its upcoming action-adventure video game Assassin's Creed Unity with a neat feature, a sort of street-view experience enabling gamers to explore the city streets of Paris.

The initiative is titled Project Widow and is pitched as "a unique online experience" that lets you stroll through present-day Paris, with narrative by Andy Serkis.

Serkis is best known for his portrayal of Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and for his stellar work bringing Caesar to life in the reboots of "Planet of the Apes."

Apart from narration, gamers will also be treated to various tidbits of information regarding the game's setting.

Project Widow

The feature offers a 360-degree street-level view of a few popular sections of today's Paris, including The Bastille, Notre Dame, and Place de la Concorde. The name Project Widow comes from one of the nicknames of the infamous guillotine, used for executions during 18th century France.

Oddly enough, the guillotine was kept as France's standard method of execution up until 1977, until the capital punishment was abolished in the country.

Anyway, there are a few predetermined paths to take, offering a tour of some cobbled streets and back alley of the French capital, laden with clickable icons that you can use to see some of the videos that Ubisoft has released so far, as well as to learn about the people and places that were a big part of the French Revolution, Assassin's Creed Unity's setting.

In addition to this, participants can also win various prizes and exclusives, and there are also some secrets that can be found by poking here and there.

The game

Assassin's Creed Unity will be the first installment in the long-running series that enables players to engage in the campaign cooperatively, retaining the patented open-world exploration gameplay, as well as the focus on stealth and melee combat.

The game is set in Paris during the events of the French Revolution, and the story follows a new protagonist, Arno Dorian, in his quest to expose the powers behind the revolution and to set things right.

Players will be able to tackle missions in several different ways, with objectives being less linear, and they will also be able to enter many of the buildings when navigating the map or making their escape from the guards.

Assassin's Creed Unity is slated to come out on November 11 in North America, November 13 in Europe and other PAL territories, and on December 4 in Japan. The game will be available on PC, on the Xbox One home console from Microsoft, and on the PlayStation 4 entertainment system from Sony.
