Video game developers Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive are announcing that they are working on a new title called Arizona Sunshine, which is designed from the ground up to work with the virtual reality Vive device, which Valve and HTC are planning to introduce this year.

The two companies want to put gamers in the middle of a zombie apocalypse that takes place in the Grand Canyon state, with undead roaming all across the game world as the player is trying to make sure that he finds the other survivors.

Arizona Sunshine is designed to also introduce heat as a major problem that survivors need to work around as they try to reach their goals.

The developer state, "Arizona Sunshine is a VR shooter built and optimized for room-scale VR from the ground up. Step into the midst of a zombie apocalypse as if you were really there, and defend yourself against enemies close enough to touch. A custom-built physical animation system makes striking your undead enemies more thrilling and satisfying than ever before."

The room sized design of the title uses the unique capabilities of the Vive, and the motion controllers are also included in the experience, allowing players to get unparalleled realism when it comes to combat.

Arizona Sunshine is also designed to be experienced in small chunks, allowing players to customize their sessions around their free time.

Vive is the first VR system to make it to market

Valve and HTC have said that they want to introduce the Vive platform to players before the end of the year, although at the moment no date has been announced for it, and the price remains a mystery.

In 2016, the device will face competition from the Oculus Rift, which recently received a full list of hardware requirements, and the Sony made Project Morpheus, which will only work on the PlayStation 4.

Virtual reality aims to make gaming more realistic and engaging for players, but none of the companies working on it has so far revealed the full extent of their software launch line-up.

The tech behind the Vive might be impressive on its own but gamers will only adopt it en-masse if there are cool video games associated with it and Valve and HTC will have to reveal a number of titles that are at least as interesting as Arizona Sunshine.
