Smartwatches are yet to become devices one can’t really live without, but those who’ve purchased one have probably quickly become accustomed to knowing that all their notifications are conveniently waiting for them on their wrist.

But sometimes casual activities like eating or taking a stroll out with the bicycle will prevent you from interacting with your smartwatch, checking for notifications or whatnot.

But clever Aria is here to help you with that particular problem, if it can even be considered a problem. Aria is an add-on band that helps you control your smartwatch by virtue of finger gestures. The motion-based interaction device is compatible with Android Wear and Pebble Time.

Aria is a smart, little add-on

How does Aria know what you mean when you move your fingers? Well, the hardware inside it is capable of tracking movements of the tendons in your wrist and translating them into the appropriate gestures or action on the watch.

For the Pebble Time, the Aria module will attach to the watch’s band and take advantage of the module’s technology in order to let users navigate through their smartwatch interface just by moving their fingers.

The module is also said to be compatible with current Android Wear watches, since it uses Bluetooth services to connect to the wearable. With the new Android Wear 5.1, Google’s wearable OS has gained new gestures controls, so Aria would fit right into the whole equation.

Aria will become available for pre-order soon

The add-on will come integrated in the upcoming Pebble Time and will cost you $70 / €63. There is another version that sells for $170 / €154 and can be used on any Android Wear device you might own. The little device will clip onto the watch band and comes with an SDK to allow developers to integrate gesture controls into their Android Wear apps.

Aria will soon make it to Kickstarter, where the folks behind the project hope to crowdfund their gizmo into existence. Once Aria makes it online, interested parties can help fund the idea, while placing their order for one of the units.

Aria sure makes interacting with your Android Wear / Pebble smartwatch a lot more fun, so we’re pretty sure that a lot of people are going to like the idea.
