You don’t have to be in mourning over the MagSafe connector

Apple unveiled its latest MacBook laptop with Retina display during the “Spring Forward” event, a few weeks ago.

The notebook proved to be quite a paradoxical product. First of all, the device comes with only one port of the USB Type-C variety. This all-in-one connector is actually a substitute for no less than five different connectors, including Power, USB, HDMI, VGA and Display ports.

The caveat in the case of the new MacBook is that you can only use one function at a time, which means you’ll need to buy all sort of expensive adapters from Apple if you want to connect various devices at the same time.

Secondly, Apple doesn't use its innovative MagSafe connector on the new Retina MacBook, although the port is available on the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines.

Did you know you could charge your new MacBook with a power bank?

A lot of people didn’t really take too kindly to Apple’s decision to remove the MagSafe connector they have been known to love and cherish throughout the year. But the presence of the USB Type-C connector on board does have its perks.

The folks at Mashable have discovered that it is entirely possible to charge a new MacBook using a power bank.

A user attempting to charge his/her laptop wouldn't have to rely on a wall socket anymore. Instead, all they would need is a power bank along with a USB-C to USB-A cable, to get things rolling. Unlike an adapter, this cable will cost you as little as $10 / €9.

Well, charging from a power bank was possible with previous MacBook models, although you would have needed an adapter. So the current scenario does seem a lot more efficient and easy to set up.

Charging your new MacBook with a power bank might come in handy for people who travel a lot and might not always have access to a wall socket, especially if they spend a lot of time flying.

Apple says its new MacBook can run up to 10 hours on a single charge, although a real life scenario might show the laptop can sustain a bit less. But with a high-capacity battery pack, now you can extend the notebook’s life cycle even further.
