Hacker shows how to get Apple’s desktop OS on a graphics tab

In January 2015, graphical tablet specialist Wacom launched the Cintiq Companion 2. The device bundles a 13-inch display like its predecessor and boasts a massive 2K resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels).

The device can be connected to a Windows or Mac computer and used to draw with 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity.

What's more, the Companion 2 can also be used as the standard tablet. It relies on a Haswell processor and Windows 8.1 software, so you’re good to go if you want to catch a quick video during your working break.

But if you’re not really happy about Wacom’s decision to put Windows 8.1 on board and you’d rather have OS X on your Cintiq, the good news is that now there’s a way to port Apple’s OS on your graphics slate.

OS X Yosemite can be made to successfully run on Wacom's latest tablet

CG Alchemest is famous for previously porting Apple’s OS X Lion on Samsung’s Series 7 Slate PC, even if he was doing business under a different name back then.

Now he has posted a video of Wacom’s latest tablet running on OS X Yosemite. As you can see for yourself in the footage, the touchscreen works, the on-screen keyboard pops up whenever needed, and users can even employ the pen.

Some functions are not yet available, like Wi-Fi, sleep mode, SD card and volume rockers, but CG Alchemest will probably fix these problems in the near future, if you’re patient enough.

The complete instructions for how to port Apple’s OS X Yosemite on your Wacom tablet can be found on the Insanely Mac forum and the process is a pretty complex one.

However, as we told you above, you’ll have to keep in mind that not all functions will work for you from the beginning, but if you’re prepared to live with that, you can go ahead and try the tutorial.

At the moment, Apple doesn't have for sale any tablets with OS X on them, so your only hope is to get an iPad with iOS onboard. However, if you already have a Cintiq Companion 2 around and you want a change in your life, you can give this a try.

The Cintiq Companion 2 is a pretty expensive tablet. The Core i3 version is offered for about $1,300 / €1,179.
