Cupertino company set to launch the device in a few months

The upcoming Apple Watch is still on track for its early 2015 debut, according to a redesigned site dedicated to the smart-watch. This, despite a leaked convo between Apple retail boss Angela Ahrends and employees, where the ex-Burberry CEO cited a spring release.

In all fairness, spring 2015 and early 2015 are about the same thing. Safe to say we won’t be seeing the device hit the shelves any earlier than March, and Apple could always delay it. It’s been known to happen.

All-in-one

The new Apple Watch site no longer forces the user to scroll endlessly to find a particular feature that he / she wants to learn more about. Instead, the home page now crams all the key aspects together, giving each one its own sub-section.

Timekeeping is all about the faces and how you can set your watch to display just the things you want. It also talks about Glances and Complications, a term devised by watchmakers to designate add-ons. In the case of the Apple Watch, these include things like an alarm, the weather, or when the sun rises and sets.

A section called New Ways to Connect talks about the communications features of the wearable computer, including phone integration, messages, the Sketch feature that lets you use your finger to draw something quickly and send that drawing to someone close by, the vibration tap, Heartnbeat, and more.

Health & Fitness doesn’t need an introduction anymore, but Apple seems to have included some new photography to promote the Sport and Stainless Steel editions of the device. Other sub-sections include Design, Technology, Gallery, and Films. Apple Watch Edition, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch each have their own sub-sections as well, detailing the particularities of each model in part.

Pricing and availability

To be frank, Apple has yet to announce both the pricing and the exact availability of Apple Watch, but rumor has it that it will start at $349 (€280) and will be capped at around $5,000 (€4,000). The cheapest of the lot will be the Sport model, while the most expensive one will be the Apple Watch Edition model, which comes in a gold-plated enclosure.

Apple Watch is not the first device of its kind – considering the product category it’s in – but it’s certainly one of a kind, and the first such endeavor from Apple. The product is promising to say the least, but it remains to be seen just how much demand there really is for such a thing.
