Apple is bolstering its music offerings with the hiring of Zane Lowe, an award winning radio DJ, Live DJ, record producer, and television presenter. Lowe will be hosting his final show for the BBC’s Radio 1 on March 5.

Recent moves made by Apple have suggested that the company is trying to revitalize its music business, the most prominent of which has been the $3 billion (€2.6 billion) acquisition of Beats Electronics in 2014.

Even before the costly purchase of Dr Dre’s company, Apple was already signaling a gear shift with the introduction of iTunes Radio. The Mac maker has also discontinued its “Single of the Week” promotion as of late.

“Exciting times lie ahead”

While some have been saddened by the discontinuation of Apple’s weekly single giveaway, there’s reason for them to smile now. The company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California has just hired one of the world’s most famous DJs, Zane Lowe. He’ll be taking up his role as iTunes Radio presenter in March.

“I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship,” Lowe said, confirming his departure. “The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country’s best music fans – I’ve loved every minute of it. Exciting times lie ahead,” Lowe added.

iTunes Radio to get its game on

So far, iTunes Radio hasn’t been a craze, although it has been able to pose some serious competition to the likes of Spotify. However, with Beats Music by its side, and now with Lowe in the driver’s seat, the service could essentially become the world’s most popular Internet radio service.

Lowe will bring a new level of excitement through presenting, curating songs, scoring interviews with the who’s who of the music industry, promoting up and coming artists - things iTunes Radio currently lacks.
