14 DAY TRIAL // Today, Pioneer has announced the availability of a new firmware package targeted at some of its AVIC in-dash receivers, namely version 1.06, which adds compatibility support for Apple CarPlay and iTunes Radio.
In order to be clear, this new firmware can be applied on the producer’s AVIC-X8610BS, -4000NEX, -5000NEX, -6000NEX, -7000NEX, and -8000NEX car receivers.
If applied, the 1.06 update will allow the devices to make use of the two new features using an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, as well as an iPhone 5, 5c, or 5s. However, bear in mind that a Lightning to USB cable will be necessary to connect the receiver to the iPhone.
In addition to that, the compatible units will also receive support for MPEG-2 playback, as well as a new rear view camera feature (except for the AVIC-4000NEX).
As for installing this release, first you should know that the firmware update process will reset all navigation function settings to factory defaults, therefore make sure you back them up. Also, it is recommended that any devices attached to the receiver be disconnected.
Now save and unzip the appropriate package for your device, copy the newly created folder onto a formatted USB storage, connect it to the receiver’s USB port 1, and set the audio source to “OFF.”
Afterwards, go to Home > Settings > System > System Information > Firmware Update, select “Continue” at the next dialog in order to search the removable storage, and then press “Start” when the new software has been found to initiate the upgrade.
Bear in mind that this process should take up to 1 minute to complete, therefore, don’t remove the USB until the LCD displays an “Update Complete!” message and the Home button is pressed (this will reset the unit).
With this in mind, download Firmware 1.06 for Pioneer AVIC Receivers, make sure you choose the correct one, and apply it on your device in order to benefit from the changes that this release brings about.
