When Apple stops supporting Aperture, it will be good to know that starting with Lightroom 5.7, you’ll be able to employ an importer tool that lets you move your entire work over to Adobe’s portfolio of photo editing tools.

Now available as a stable release, Lightroom 5.7 provides additional camera raw support, lens profile support, important bug fixes, and more.

Updates to Synced Collections

Synced collections in Lightroom now show a more prominent share button, allowing users to quickly pass on their synced collection to others. The Lightroom desktop catalog now syncs comments and likes left on Lightroom web. These will be shown in the “Comment” pane for collections that you’ve synced.

Lightroom will display a badge on images that have received feedback, and the color of the badge designates if the feedback has been viewed.

Aperture Importer, new camera support

One of the key enhancements in Lightroom 5.7 is that it comes with a built-in Aperture Importer utility. This tool was previously available as a separate download.

It allows users to import an entire Aperture library, complete with Keywords, GPS Data, Rejects, Flags, Star Ratings, Hidden Files, Face Tags, Color Labels, and Stacks.

As far as new cameras are concerned, the following new models have been added to Lightroom’s support bank: Canon EOS 7D Mark II, Canon PowerShot G7 X, Canon PowerShot SX60 HS, Casio EX-100PRO, Fujifilm X30, Fujifilm X100T, Fujifilm X-T1 Graphite Silver, Leaf Credo 50, Leica D-Lux (Typ 109), Leica M-P, Leica V-Lux (Typ 114), Leica X (Typ 113), Nikon D750, Olympus PEN E-PL7, Olympus STYLUS 1s, Panasonic DMC-CM1, Panasonic DMC-GM1S, Panasonic DMC-GM5, Panasonic DMC-LX100, Pentax K-S1, Pentax QS-1, Samsung NX1, Sony ILCE-5100, Sony ILCE-QX1.

There are some newly supported cameras for Tethered Capture as well. These are the Nikon D4S and the Nikon D810. New lens profile support has also been confirmed.

Camera Raw 8.7 and DNG Converter 8.7

These are also available as final builds now. As far as these updates are concerned, Adobe says, “this release improves performance when batch processing images, both through the Save button in Camera Raw and when converting images to DNG in the DNG Converter. DNG Converter 8.7 is provided for customers using versions of Photoshop older than Photoshop CS6.”

For Photoshop CS6 users, the updates to Camera Raw 8 only include new camera support, lens profile support, and bug fixes, according to the Flash makers. The full release notes will tell you more about each update in part.
