Antivirus Live CD is a Linux distribution based on 4MLinux that includes the ClamAV scanner. It's built for system admins who need a lightweight live CD with an antivirus scanner. A new versions has been released and is now available for download.

The Antivirus Live CD project has been out for some time, but it has changed very little. Its developers have only upgraded the base from time to time and the definitions.

As the name suggests, this is the primary function of this tool and it's important to have everything up to date, especially the Linux definition. They can be downloaded from the Internet before the scanning process is started, but there is also a version of the distro that already has them integrated.

Some users might wonder what the role of the Antivirus Live CD would be for the Linux platform, and the answer to that question is simple. It's not designed for Linux users, although it's perfectly capable of scanning Linux partitions, if necessary.

This system is built to scan other operating systems as well, like Windows for example, and it can do it from the outside.

Antivirus Live CD always has the latest virus definitions

The operating system doesn't have a Linux distribution and you might think that it's not user friendly, but that's not the case. Users only have to run the "antivir" command and they will be presented with three simple choices, to scan the computer, to upgrade the virus signature, or to update the ClamAV software. It's also possible to run Midnight Commander in order to get access to some basic functions, like copy, move, or delete.

"Antivirus Live CD is a 4MLinux fork including the ClamAV scanner. It's designed for users who need a lightweight live CD, which will help them to protect their computers against viruses. Both Ethernet (including Wi-Fi) and dial-up (including fast USB modems) Internet connections are supported to enable automatic updates of the virus signature database."

"All partitions are mounted automatically during boot so that they can be scanned by ClamAV (the supported filesystems are: btrfs, ext2, ext3, ext4, FAT, HFS, HFS+, jfs, Minix, NTFS, ReiserFS, and XFS). Antivirus Live CD images are fully compatible with UNetbootin, which can be used to create an easy-to-use Antivirus Live USB. The latest version 11.0-0.98.5 is based on 4MLinux 11.0 and ClamAV 0.98.5," reads the official website.

Check out the official announcement for a complete list of changes. Download Antivirus Live CD 11.0-0.98.5 right now from Softpedia. Be careful though, this will not replace any files that have gone missing due to virus activity, it will just disinfect the system.
