Azealia Banks isn’t the only one thinking that Australian rapper Iggy Azalea is appropriating black culture for financial gain: Anonymous seems to be of the same opinion, so it’s taking Azealia’s side in the feud that escalated over the weekend.
@TheAnonMessage, believed to be a branch of the larger Anonymous hackers group, targeted Iggy over the weekend, right after her feud with Azealia was fueled again by Iggy’s response, saying she wasn’t racist: it was Azealia who was a bitter bigot who wouldn’t live and let live, as the saying goes.
The Twitter account is no longer online, so neither are the threats they made to the Aussie, but suffice it to say that they showed they still hated her with a passion.
Apologize or else
“@IGGYAZALEA, you have exactly 48 hours from now to release a statement apologizing to @AzealiaBanks and the protesters in NYC... You are guilty of misappropriating black culture, insulting peaceful protesters, and making light of Eric Garner's death,” the message read.
Anonymous didn’t say how Iggy “made light” of Garner’s death, but this isn’t the first time that the group picks on her for that. Earlier this month, they tried to boycott one of her concerts with the famous Die-in, but not enough protesters came, despite the fact that plans had been made public on Facebook in advance.
The fact that she picked on Azealia and responded to her initial comment about how she was “not excellent” to receive Grammy attention, unlike some black female rappers are, only fueled this fury Anonymous has against her.
If she didn’t apologize, they would release stills from her adult tape, probably the same one that emerged online in September. They made it clear: this wasn’t to fulfill a curiosity or a fantasy, this was to expose Iggy for what she was, a Kim Kardashian-wannabe who now posed as a serious rapper and feigned street cred.
The group claimed they had the tape but would only release stills because that would be the best way to shame her and show her that she should have just apologized.
“We have so much [expletive] on you, your scandal would be bigger than Bill Cosby's. There's an X rated tape of you, we bet you'd certainly don't want public, are we right? @IGGYAZALEA.... and this is nothing. Comply or else,” the group added.
The Iggy vs. Azealia feud
As of the time of writing, Iggy has not apologized to Azealia and neither did she delete the tweets that got Anonymous’ attention.
The feud between these two goes back some time, with Azealia starting it by saying what others in the industry also believe: Iggy is a poser. She’s a white chick from Australia, hailing from a well-to-do family, who likes to pretend she’s black because hip hop is seeing rise in popularity – and because she failed at becoming a pop star.
Azealia even said that “everybody wants to be black but no one wants to be black” when speaking on the topic of the appropriation of black culture.
For most of the time, Iggy tried to not engage her, but she lost her cool over the weekend and said that the only reason she (Azealia) was so bitter was that she was a failure. Instead of accepting that she wasn’t successful because of her poor attitude, she looked to blame everyone else for her issues.
Solange Knowles, Beyonce’s sister, sided with Azealia on this and so did Anonymous. Even so, chances are the latter won’t act on their threat.
Special msg for banks: There are many black artists succeeding in all genres. The reason you haven't is because of your piss poor attitude.
