Last year there was a lot of hype in the press related to wearables, smartwatches to be more precise. Google even rolled out the Android Wear OS, a platform exclusively tailored to sustain your brand new wrist companion.

Since Android Wear watches are starting to get more and more common (or so we heard), Google is announcing an update for Android Device Manager that will help users find their lost device using an Android Wear smartwatch.

Android Device Manager got introduced back in 2013 and allowed users who were a bit spaced out to locate, reset and delete data on Android devices via Web.

“Find my phone” feature is now available for Android Wear

With the new update, Google explains that the “Find my phone” feature has now been extended and will also work from an Android Wear device.

The neat part is that the feature works by virtue of voice command using OK Google and saying “Start. Find my phone” or by going to the “Find my phone” option located in the start menu.

If your Android phone or tablet is mapped with Android Device Manager, it will start ringing at full volume until it detects your Android Wear smartwatch in its vicinity.

The update hasn't started rolling out to select users, so we can’t say when exactly you’ll receive it. However, Google did mention that users wouldn’t have to do anything to get the new feature onboard. The update will become available for your device in the next few weeks.

Google’s Android Device Manager app offers ways for users to protect their information in case their device gets stolen. Last year in August, Google rolled out an update to Android Device Manager which added the ability to set a call back button on the screen of a lost or stolen smartphone.

In its two years of existence, Android Manager helped 30 million Android users find a lost or misplaced phone or tablet. And now with Device Manager reaching Android Wear smartwatches, the numbers should see a consistent increase in the near future.

In related news, Huawei is the latest device manufacturer who unveiled an Android Wear smartwatch which proved to be a premium product.
