The Nexus 7 (2013) may be the first to get it

By now it's pretty clear that Android 5.0 Lollipop has a lot of issues on Nexus devices, but some of these issues, like missing features, are common to other smartphones and tablets as well.

However, the Nexus devices seem to suffer the most from all these bugs that Google hasn't managed to fix yet. Although the search giant stated that future updates would address some of the problems, the major ones have been fixed yet.

The next version of Android is supposed to patch some of these issues, but Google hasn't been too kind with the details on its release.

If you've been waiting for Android 5.1 Lollipop since the latest version of Google's OS has been released, then know that it's closer than we expected.

According to AndroidPolice's Artem Russakovskii, Google should release Android 5.1 Lollipop sometime this week. Obviously, it will arrive on Nexus devices and the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet is likely to be the first to get it.

The information comes from a “solid source,” but since there aren't too many days left from this week we might as well wait and see what happens before jumping up to any conclusions.

Stability and performance improvements

Word is that Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring some smoothness for the operating system, something that's much needed on Nexus devices which have been lagging since the first version of Lollipop got released.

One of the reasons Google has delayed Android 5.1 Lollipop for so long is battery life issues, which may or may not have been resolved. In fact, this is the only reason that made Google keep the update from being released.

The information the source provided points to “later this week,” but only if these battery life issues have been addressed. In the meantime, we can only hope that Android 5.1 Lollipop will finally make the OS more stable and smoother.
