Google might jump a decimal with the latest Android build

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop is the latest build rolling out from Google to certain devices including the Nexus set of tablet and smartphones.

Yesterday, we told you Samsung was also working towards bringing Android 5.0.1 to some of its handsets (Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge) and by-passing Android 5.0 altogether.

Android 5.1 is in the pipeline

Now a new report coming via Android Pit claims that Android 5.0.1 won’t remain the latest Google build for long. According to them, Android 5.1 is already in development and will be upon us as soon as February 2015.

On top of that, the source also disclosed information related to what improvements and fixes we should expect to see with the new iteration.

Unlike Android 5.01, the upcoming build will be a rather large update that will bestow many improvements on your handset.

Since Android 5.0 rolled out into the wild, users have been complaining the new build brings along a lot of problems. So the 5.1 will hopefully come to patch these issues once and for all.

Android 5.1 partial change-log

Let’s see what the improvements are. For starters, Android 5.1 will supposedly add improved RAM / battery management and general system stability features.

The new build will come to fix sudden app closures, excessive consumption of network devices when Wi-Fi is used, wireless connection woes, problems with OK Google function, notifications misbehaving, sound problems experienced by select devices.

Last but not least, Android 5.1 will add changes in the Material Design color palette. We can't wait to see that!

So far there’s no information related to what additional functions we might see the update bring to the table, but as soon as this information becomes available we’ll make sure to keep you updated.

This sounds like Google has a rather ambitious project on its hands, but with just two months left until the deadline who’s to say if Android 5.1 will make it out into the wild on time.

Naturally, you should take the information with a big grain of salt, so you won't be surprised if the report turns out to be bogus.

Anyway, a lot of smartphones and tablets are currently awaiting to receive the Android 5.0 update, but who knows if Android 5.1 does come through in February, we might see some manufacturers take Samsung’s route.

As we told you above, the Korean tech giant reportedly decided to skip a beat with the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge and update them directly to Android 5.0.1. However, we’re not sure when the new build is supposed to hit, so in all possibility Android 5.1 might arrive instead.
