Will the ASUS Zenfone lineup ever get Lollipop?

ASUS has been promising Android 5.0 Lollipop for its lineup of Zenfone devices ever since March, but the manufacturer has kept on delaying the moment of arrival.

The company released a beta version of Lollipop for the Zenfone 4,5 and 6, but the final version has yet to see the light of day. A few days ago, ASUS announced that it was still not done working on the Lollipop update, thus delaying the update once again without providing users with future release dates.

This week, ASUS India has revealed on Facebook that it will take another 3 to 4 months before the company is ready to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Zenfone 5 (we have to guess that the Zenfone 4 and 6 are also included under the same umbrella).

Android 5.0 Lollipop for ASUS Zenfone 5 is not coming anytime soon

Surely, updates such as these will usually roll out in stages, so we’re probably dealing with a location-based delay, since Indian carriers have to be on board with the update as well. Even so, the delay will still amount to a consistent period of time.

Since the Padfone S was also postponed alongside the Zenfones, the delay probably affects it too, but we can’t confirm that at the moment.

With Google prepping Android M for release towards the end of the month, it seems pretty awful that ASUS Zenfone users will have to wait until August/September to get updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. We can’t even begin to imagine the amount of waiting they will have to endure to get Android M.

Or will ASUS resort to a "dirty" trick and jump directly to Android M while “gracefully” skipping over Android Lollipop? It would be much of a fair play move.

You are probably wondering what the reason behind the big delay is. Well, it appears that ASUS engineers’ have found some nasty issues during the final states of verification, which forced them to delay the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade so they can provide better user experience.

In related news, the company has also announced that, due to hardware limitations with the new Padfone Infinity (A86), Android 5.0 Lollipop has been canceled. So much bad news from the ASUS camp!
