Google announced last week it would start selling the Nexus 6 smartphone on October 29 and pre-orders should start shipping sometime in early November.

If everything goes according to plan, Google should be able to start shipping its flagship smartphone around November 3. The actual market release date of the Nexus 6 is important for those who own other Nexus devices as well, due to the fact that Google is likely to start the rollout of the Android 5.0 Lollipop around the same timeframe.

In fact, the search giant announces that the Nexus devices should receive the update as soon as the Nexus 6 goes on sale, while the Google Play Edition handsets will get it “in the coming weeks.”

Now, before the final version of Lollipop could make its way to other Nexus devices, Google has released one last developer preview version of Android 5.0 for Nexus 5 smartphones.

While this is not the final version of the operating system, Google confirmed it includes the final APIs, so developers can start creating and testing on Android 5.0 Lollipop having all the APIs at their disposal.

Although the Android 5.0 Lollipop preview image for Nexus 5 is aimed at developers who want to be prepared for the arrival of the final version, those who wish to have a glimpse of what the new OS has to offer can flash it as well.

The final version of Android 5.0 will arrive on Nexus 5 in November

Developers who already have a previous preview version of the Android L installed on their Nexus 5 units should update immediately to the latest iteration and take advantage of new features that have been included by Google.

In order to get the latest Android 5.0 SDK, make sure you open the Android SDK Manager application and head over to Tools section, select the latest SDK Tools, SDK Platform-tools, and SDK Build-tools.

Then, select everything under the Android 5.0 section and click Install packages. Accept the licensing agreement for the packages, and then click Install again.

Those who already have a previous Android L Preview SDK installed on their Nexus 5 should select all the packages in the SDK Manager and click Delete packages.

Keep in mind that the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop Developer Preview for Nexus 5 has more than 5000 new APIs, as well as the new Material Design visual environment and new security and business features.

Make sure you follow the step-by-step guide provided earlier and that you know what you’re doing. The new Android 5.0 Lollipop developer preview for Nexus 5, based on build lpx13d, is now available for download via Android Developers website.
