This is the third maintenance release of Alpine Linux 3.1

Natanael Copa has announced earlier today, March 20, the immediate availability for download of the third maintenance release for its terminal-based Alpine Linux computer operating system. Alpine Linux 3.1.3 includes an updated Linux kernel package, as well as a number of bug fixes over the previous version.

According to the release notes, Alpine Linux 3.1.3 is now powered by Linux kernel 3.14.36 LTS (Long Term Support), which includes a great number of critical security fixes, making the distribution more stable and reliable, especially when deployed on servers.

“The Alpine Linux project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of version 3.1.3 of its Alpine Linux operating system. This is a bugfix release of the v3.1 musl based branch. This release is based on the 3.14.36 kernel which has some critical security fixes,” was stated in the official release announcement.

Numerous software packages have been updated to their latest versions

Many of the included packages in Alpine Linux 3.1.3 have been updated to their latest versions. Among these, we can mention Squid 3.4.12, Samba 4.1.17, OpenSSL 1.0.1m, VLC 2.1.6, CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) 2.0.2, libpng 1.6.16, pingu 1.5, and Putty 0.64.

In addition, the Roundcube Webmail 1.0.5, Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV) 0.98.6, Socat 1.7.3.0, D-Bus 1.8.16, Sudo 1.8.12, XOrg Server 1.16.4, py-pillow 2.7.0, alpine-mirrors 3.1.2, RPCBind 0.2.3 RC2, and patch 2.7.5 packages are also included in the new point release of Alpine Linux 3.1.
