14 DAY TRIAL // Of all the actors who might be tempted to join the Marvel team and appear in a superhero movie, the name Al Pacino is probably among the last that would come to mind, mostly because, to a large section of the moviegoing public, superhero films are still not “serious” fare.
Cough, Chris Nolan, cough.
Still, earlier this year, Pacino said he had seen “Guardians of the Galaxy” and that he had thoroughly enjoyed it, not only because it was a fun movie about space travel (and how to blow stuff up in space) but also because of the good acting and good storytelling.
He even hinted that he’d be up for a Marvel cameo as well – and chances are that his words have been heard by the right people, because he’s met with Marvel President Kevin Feige. Unless the meeting was a courtesy call and they talked about the weather, it’s very likely that the topic of conversation was a cameo in one of the upcoming movies.
Pacino took part in the Happy Sad Confused podcast (embedded below) and confirmed the meeting. You will find that at the 32-minute mark.
“I’ve met with the Marvel guy. It’s a marvel how things happen,” he told MTV’s Josh Horowitz, laughing. Asked if he’ll be making a cameo, Pacino said, “I would imagine that either there’s something he feels is right for me and if I feel…”
His phone rang at that precise moment, and Pacino saved face by joking that it was Marvel calling him to warn him to go light on the spoilers. So basically, he stopped short of confirming the cameo, but it will happen, rumor online has it. It is believed he will be playing one of the supreme elders in the Marvel universe, The Grandmaster, and will appear in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”
