Adam Levine is creepy butcher stalker in new Maroon 5 “Animals” music video

Adam Levine, one of the most coveted bachelors in showbiz, tied the knot this summer to model Behati Prinsloo. Today, she’s making her debut as “video vixen,” playing lead in Maroon 5’s new and uber-creepy video for the single “Animals.”

If you know the track, you probably know what to expect from the video when I say it’s a perfect match for such a song. All those things about “hunting you down” and “eating you alive” get quite a literal representation in the clip.

Levine plays a butcher with an obsession for Prinsloo’s character. He turns stalker and follows her around wherever she goes, even creeping into her room at night to take pictures of her as she’s sleeping.

Once, at a club, he tries to chat her up over drinks, but he gets that which we know as “the look” and is turned down. This is when his obsession takes a violent turn, so the video shows him embracing slabs of meat hanging from the ceiling, while images of the two making passionate love are juxtaposed. You get it.

The video culminates with images of Levine eating Prinsloo up in a shower of blood. This actually sounds more romantic in writing than it is in reality, because the effect of the visual is disconcerting, almost nauseating.

If Levine set out to present a dysfunctional man and his unhealthy obsession with a woman he barely knows with “Animals” – mission achieved. If he somehow wanted to present a passionate relationship, he failed, because he only came up with a super creepy and very disturbing video.

Whichever the case, it’s a video that’s getting people to pay attention to the band’s music, which is exactly what they need right now, when they’re working on a new tour. “Animals” was directed by Samuel Bayer and is available at the Maroon 5 VEVO page. *Please note that discretion is heavily recommended for graphic images that might offend.
