Acer is looking to dab more and more into gaming

Acer made a debut into the world of gaming machines some time ago with its Spire Nitro laptop lineup, which includes some interesting models like the V17 that offers Kinect-like gestures.

For more demanding gamers, Acer offers the Aspire V Nitro Black Edition, which boasts a beautiful 4K display with 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution, an Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor from the Haswell family, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860 with 2GB of GDDR5 RAM.

Anyway, it seems like Acer is looking to extend its grasp over the gaming market by introducing a new line of computer products called Predator.

This includes high-end desktop PCs, new laptops with 15-inch and 17-inch displays, and at some point, even a tablet.

The gaming tablet ecosystem is not very consistent at the moment, but news of AMD’s Project Discovery Tablet, which showed up at CES 2014, prompted some people to say that such slates might end up being the downfall of gaming consoles at some point.

Acer's Predator slate will take on the NVIDIA Shield Tablet

Until now, NVIDIA and maybe Sony with its Xperia Z4 Tablet Compact (it has PS4 support) have actually tackled the gaming tablet niche. But Acer is looking to do it too, and even if the company is pretty mysterious about the topic, a report coming out of Engadget does reveal that the company hopes to launch the product in the third quarter of 2015.

Luckily, a few images showing the slate have surfaced online and we can get an idea of what Acer wants to accomplish here by taking a look at them.

So far, we know that the slate will have four front-facing speakers, what it seems to be an 8-inch display, and some sort of haptic action for tactile feedback while playing games. Sounds like a fancy system, but sadly, we don’t have any more details related to it to share with you at the moment.

It appears the tablet will run Android, but we shouldn’t be all that surprised if come launch day the Predator will make a debut with Windows on board.

We’re still a few months away from the tablet's release date, but seeing its distinctive design, we can’t wait for it to be unveiled.
