ASUS will bring out a refreshed line of smartphones

In a few weeks all of the tech industry’s major players will gather up in Las Vegas where they will put on display their latest products as part of the Consumer Electronics Show 2015.

Interestingly enough, unlike previous years, we haven’t been faced with a lot of rumors concerning the upcoming products that are bound for CES.

This silence doesn't necessarily mean we’re not going to see anything worth our while, but it surely raises some questions.

ASUS to hold press event at CES 2015 on January 2015

Anyway, like it often happens, major tech manufacturers announce their CES press events a few weeks ahead and offer a discreet teaser in the process too.

It’s the case of ASUS, which has just announced it will hold its press conference on January 5. The device maker also posted an image on its official website inviting us to “Experience 2morrow”. Plus it added a timer counting down until the big day comes.

While ASUS’ teaser doesn't give anything away in terms of what we should be expecting to see launch under the company’s banner at CES, the Intel official webpage slips some details out.

Apparently, ASUS and Intel have partnered up once more in order to roll out a lineup of Intel-powered 4G LTE smartphones in Las Vegas.

Naturally, we have to assume that the new handsets will be part of the ZenFone lineup. Intel also says these LTE-capable phones will be priced around the $300 / €241 margin.

The current ZenFone lineup includes 4-inch, 5-inch and 6-inch models which already take advantage of Intel processors.

ASUS might also be preparing budget ZenFones for Las Vegas

However, ASUS might also take the opportunity to unveil some ZenFones that will be based on a MediaTek chipset.

These variants were spotted a while ago in GFX Benchmark, being powered by a MediaTek MT6732, which is a 64-bit chipset that includes a 1.5GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor and Mali-T670 GPU. It also comes with support for LTE connectivity.

The MediaTek-powered ZenFones models will sell for less than $300 / €241 and is ASUS’ intention of marketing them in China and emerging markets.

It’s been a year since ASUS debuted ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 smartphone with Intel Atom CPUs at CES 2014, so it’s about time a refresh came along.

And if we’re to reminisce about the past, we’re going to remind you that ASUS also introduced the world’s first 4-in-1 dual-booth hybrid running both Android and Windows, called the Transformer Book Duet at CES 2014, which sadly never made it to the market.

Let’s hope this year ASUS will focus on more viable products.
