Before John Legend and Common won the Oscar for Best Song at the 2015 awards gala that took place last night at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, they performed “Glory” and prompted the most emotional response from the audience in the entire night.

The duo took to the stage to perform the song they wrote and recorded for the movie “Selma,” and recreated for the performance the bridge scene from it. Common had promised earlier in the evening, while speaking with Ryan Seacrest, a beautiful and simple performance - and they clearly delivered.

They were accompanied by a somber choir that worked wonderfully together, and the result was so beautiful and touching that not many eyes were left dry in the house. David Oyelowo, who stars in the film, and “Star Trek” leading man Chris Pine were openly and shamelessly crying, tears streaming down their face. Chances are they weren’t the only ones either.

Later in the evening, the duo were up on stage again, this time to collect the award. They were credited with their real names, John Stephens and Lonnie Lynn, and they delivered a beautiful speech on the need to continue the fight for equality and the end of racial discrimination.

Both moments, considered highlights of the evening, are included below. Enjoy!
