John Travolta was invited to introduce Idina Menzel at the Oscars 2014 ahead of her performance, but he butchered her name so badly that Adele Dazeem will live for ever in infamy, as will his huge faux-pas. The Academy hoped he’d make it right at this year’s edition, in what was the best kept secret of the gala, which wrapped a short while ago.
Idina and John Travolta reunited on stage at the Oscars last night, presenting the award for Best Song. Idina had her revenge on him, introducing him on stage as Glom Gazingo, which even Travolta admitted he definitely deserved.
And then the creepiest, most awkward thing happened: while clutching her waist, Travolta kept touching Idina’s face while she smiled uncomfortably and tried to move away from his reach. The painfully awkward moment is included in the video below and has gotten many viewers at home debating it on social media.
You can also see a few samples of the things said on Twitter on the topic.
Travolta ended up with a new label to his name, that of the creepy uncle, so while this reunion was a winning idea in theory, in practice it made for very uncomfortable viewing. It also did nothing in terms of helping Travolta move on from last year’s flub.
His choice of a chain choker, guyliner and wig didn’t help with that either.
