Gwyneth Paltrow, one of the presenters at the Oscars 2015, which took place on Sunday night at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and aired live on ABC, made a huge impression when she set foot on the red carpet, wearing a pink gown with a giant flower on her shoulder.

Pink was a color that few other Oscar attendees opted for, so in this respect alone Gwyneth’s dress was a risk. However, she made herself noticed for other things, the giant flower and her statement jewelry included.

“Gwyneth was attacked by a pink flower” jokes

When the actress made her entrance on the red carpet, Twitter lit up with hilarious comments and more or less mean jokes about her statement dress.

It wasn’t that she didn’t look good in her pink gown by Ralph & Russo Couture that got people talking, but the fact that, from a distance, no one could focus on the details of the dress or her styling or her jewelry, because all they could see was the giant pink flower perched on her shoulder.

And it looked as if it was attacking her.

Once people got over the initial surprise of seeing a giant flower on an Oscars red carpet, they could pay attention to the other details that made Gwyneth’s get-up outstanding, like her amazing jewelry. You can see it in detail in the gallery below.

Gwyneth was decked in rubies and diamonds

The biggest trend of the night was statement / oversize necklaces, with many actresses opting for classic cuts on their gowns, made to pop with a piece of jewelry. Because of the much-ridiculed flower, Paltrow chose statement earrings instead to offset the gown.

Pret-a-Porter ID’s them as “Anna Hu Fire Phoenix earrings (priced at $425,000 / €375,880), consisting of two pear-shaped cabochon Rubellites set in white gold amid white-and-yellow diamonds; blue, pink and purple sapphires; spinels and paraiba tourmalines.”

She matched them with a ring from the same collection, a “rare 6.27-carat pigeon-blood Burmese ruby with pink diamonds and brilliant-cut white diamonds, set in rose-and-white gold.”

Those are very expensive items Gwyneth had on for the big night, the kind that require their own bodyguard. Then again, it’s not like she paid for them herself: for events like industry awards and even public appearances / promotional tours, celebrities are either paid to wear a certain brand / designer, or receive items for free.

Occasionally, they get to keep them after the event, but that was probably not the case with these Anna Hu designs.
