A fresh update has been released for OpenMW Aims

OpenMW, an open source implementation of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind game engine and functionality, has been upgraded just before the holidays and users now have something new to play with.

OpenMorrowind is just like it sounds, an open source project that has a simple goal, to improve upon of the best RPG games ever made, The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. The developer could have settled with a mod or an unofficial patch, but they wanted to do so much more. It would have been impossible to encompass everything, so they decided to remake the entire game, but this time do it properly and up to today's standards.

This is not the first release for this project. In fact, they have been working for a couple of years on this game, and just recently it managed to get a working status. Users could have played it before that as well, but not all of the core components were in place.

Despite all of the progress registered by the game, the version number seems to be a little bit behind, but that shouldn't dismay anyone from trying it.

What's new in the latest OpenMW release

Previous releases were more about adding new features, but that focus has changed now. More and more fixes are being added each time and that can only mean that we're getting closer to a more important milestone that remains to be determined.

"OpenMW is a new and modern engine based on the one that runs the 2002 open-world RPG Morrowind. The engine (OpenMW) will come with its own editor (OpenCS) which will allow the user to edit or create their own games. Both OpenCS and OpenMW are written from scratch and aren’t made to support any third party programs the original Morrowind engine uses to improve its functionality."

"The OpenMW team is proud to announce the release of version 0.34.0! This release features many bug fixes, improvements to installation and the launcher, and exciting updates to OpenCS. Our '1.0' release remains excitingly close!" reads the official website.

A complete list of changes and new features can be found in the official announcement. In order to use OpenMW, players must legally own and install the original game, The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. You can download OpenMW 0.33.0 right now from Softpedia. This is still under development, so it's likely that bugs are still present. If you do happen to find any, please make sure you let the dev team know as well.
